COURSE OBJECTIVES

When asked, the student will be able to write/describe/demonstrate...

  1. information about emotional and behavioral problems (i.e., "psychiatric" problems) which may occur in adults or children of normal intelligence, unrelated to advanced age, addictions, or terminal illness.
  2. information about emotional and behavioral problems which may occur in adults or children with learning problems or physical challenges.
  3. findings from data based literature which can aid in the assessment of the efficacy of a therapeutic system.
  4. appropriate transfers, generalizations, and applications for music therapy clinical practice derived from these systems.
  5. the ability to use the hypothetical mode of inquiry to assess the propriety of a particular therapeutic system for a given client.
  6. the ability to structure and professionally document treatment sessions for these patients.
  7. the ability to translate/transfer system specific jargon terms when speaking with professionals who are using a different system as a frame of reference.
  8. the ability to describe how appropriate music therapy interventions may be accounted for by therapeutic systems which are not hypothetically based.
